| Fundraisers Provide No Funds
In four years, the Moose Jaw Multiplex Builders Committee has handed over to the City of Moose Jaw less than $600,000 of the $10 million they pledged to fundraise.
Now, on the eve of a referendum to decide if the people of Moose Jaw support the current proposed project, the fundraisers arrive to announce they had raised $8 million in pledges. This is almost double the amount they claimed to have raised on June 16th.
The fundraisers brought with them no funds for the City's Multiplex account, which is currently at $599, 971. Funds that had been deposited in the City's account would gather interest as well as provide the donor with a tax deduction.
Instead, the fundraisers claimed cheques were sitting in their safe, possibly gathering dust. They declined to disclose the amount.
Ms. Shelley Jones, co-chair of the Multiplex Builders Fundraisers Campaign, also acknowledged that many of the pledges were made over time, with a limited number being over as much as 10 years.
This claim leaves one to wonder if the pledge announced by the Soccer Association of Moose Jaw on June 16th was included in the $8 million raised. Those funds were then pledged over 25 years.
